Transformation of Mangrove Rehabilitation

The challenges of mangrove rehabilitation and management are increasingly complex. The pressure on various interests must be resolved before carrying out rehabilitation actions. The status and security of land for the national rehabilitation agenda need to be a priority. Involvement and ensuring the status of community involvement are also very important as one key to the sustainability of rehabilitation activities. Support and funding schemes are also a problem for many parties.

The massive rehabilitation program by many parties needs to be managed wisely and responsibly so that rehabilitation actions and efforts are not limited to ceremonies and lead to the failure of rehabilitation activities.

Rehabilitation failures often occur because they do not prepare a comprehensive mangrove rehabilitation and management plan. Thousands of rehabilitation actions stopped after planting, then there were no regular and continuous maintenance, monitoring and evaluation activities.

This also has a psychological effect on the people involved in rehabilitation activities, because they did not find rehabilitation success.

Rehabilitation is not the same as planting. Planting activities are one part of the rehabilitation activities so changes in the mindset and work patterns of mangrove rehabilitation must be transformed for the better with more planned and comprehensive management. The involvement of experts or owners of success stories in mangrove rehabilitation management must be required in any mangrove rehabilitation and management plan.

In addition, it is necessary to encourage responsible mangrove rehabilitation policies, so that the resources spent can provide benefits to the environment and society. Each party, both institutions, communities, and individuals must be responsible for any rehabilitation activities carried out for a certain period, until the plants can adapt naturally to their natural conditions.

With the complexity of the problems and challenges mentioned above, it is necessary to innovate and simplify rehabilitation activities facilitated by parties with the capacity and ability to carry out rehabilitation management.

In addition, it is important to build a transparent and inclusive collaborative working platform, a space for donors to monitor various information and the progress of rehabilitation activities, as well as a means of convincing donors to be more involved in rehabilitation activities.

The platform will also make it easier for various parties to establish cooperation, including the government, the private sector, and the community.
